Cool. Who did you talk to to determine that I could handle a huge sum of money? Perhaps we could BOTH ask that I be allowed to handle OTHER large amounts of money.

THE PROPOSITION: A foreigner, Late Engineer Johnson Creek,
an Oil Merchant/Contractor with the Federal Government of Nigeria, until his death nine years ago in a ghastly air crash, banked with us here at Standard Trust Bank LTD. Lagos,
and had a closing balance of US$38.5M (Thirty Eight Million, Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars)
which the bank now unquestionably expects it to be claimed by any available foreign
next-of-kin of the Late beneficiary or alternatively be donated to a discredited trust fund for arms and ammunition at a military war college here in Nigeria.

Mmkay, mmkay, mmkay, ooh, ok, I see, oh yes, mmmmm, yes, I see.

Fervent valuable efforts are being made by the Standard Trust Bank to get in touch with
any of the Creek family or relatives but proved to avail.
It is because of the perceived possibility of not being able to locate any of Late Engr. Johnson Creeks next-of-kin (he had no known wife and children) that the management under the influence of our chairman and member of the board of directors,
that an arrangement be made for the funds to be declared UNCLAIMABLE and subsequently be donated to the Trust Fund for Arms and Ammunition to further enhance the course of war in
Africa and the world in general.

Welll, my my. That DOES sound bad. People Might Die if I Don’t Help you OUT somehow??? Please, … continue.

In order to avert this negative development, some of my trusted
colleagues and I now seek your permission to have you stand as a next-of-kin to Late Engr. Johnson Creek so that the funds US$38.5M would be released and paid into your bank account as the beneficiary’s next-of-kin. All documents and proves to enable you get this fund will be carefully worked out and more so we are assuring you of a 100% risk free involvement.

Excellent Podcast History on Adam Curry’s Weblog

Adam Curry’s Weblog

Podcasting comes from a marriage of weblogs and radio. Dave and I are like the Reeses Peanut Butter Cup commercial, where one person eating peanut butter bumps into another eating chocolate, and they both witness the discovery of a wonderful new taste. Only our ‘bump-moment’ didn’t happen rounding the corner, we’ve been working together and with other people on this for years. The ipodder script I wrote to put his Morning Coffee Notes on my iPod automatically, merely popped the podcasting pimple that had been brewing for all this time, building up pressure, waiting to be released. Sorry, that was a disgusting visual. But you get the idea.

I love the popping the podcasting pimple wording. Such great description. 🙂

First Podcast: My Life – including me, Dmitri Pogorelov, Kristin and Kuma Oct 30 2004

First podcast, going to test out WordPress RSS enclosure feature.

Features Russian violinist Dmitri Pogorelov, myself, Kristin, and guest appearances by our dog Kuma and cat Stella.

We went to the St. Louis symphony tonight, then to the Chocolate Bar afterwards. We really like the new version of the Chocolate Bar, and it’s now owned by a young guy (something Bailey). So then I started recording, since Dmitri needed to practice for a quartet he’s playing tomorrow.

Update: Ok, so it looks like WordPress 1.2 doesn’t automatically do the podcast enclosure thing in the RSS (just tested it in OS X version of Ipodder). Maybe it is the 1.3 version that does this automatically…

Never Forget: Internets Vets for Truth Oct 30 2004

Really nicely designed site w/ audio + video + bittorrent of documentation about both canidates.

Never Forget: Internets Vets for Truth

Who Are We?

The Internets Veterans For Truth are a few long-time bloggers, designers, and techies who decided (in slackerly fashion, around the end of last week) that some of the clips that’ve been floating around online needed to be seen by everybody.

A few catchy slogans, registered domains, and a mess of volunteered hours of encoding, design, dev, and server wrangling later…

Also, we served alongside George W. Bush in the hot, dry Texan jungles of the Internets Deltas.

Presidential Enblogments 2004 – I vote Kerry for President 2004 Oct 29 2004

I absolutely do support Kerry for President. Bush has GOT TO GO.

Presidential Enblogments 2004 :

John Kerry

Point here if you support John Kerry for President

A little project by Dave and Lessig.

As a sidenote, I’m sure if Kerry turns out to be a stinker, then I’ll be saying NO MORE KERRY in 2008. But for now, Bush is definitely not the man to be Supreme Executive. I won’t be surprised if he is elected again, but then it’s also not surprising that we are a fat, luxurious, rich nation who mostly just want things to be better for ourselves regardless of the consequenses for others…

Another Yahoo! code verification phishing scheme Oct 29 2004

Using spam to bypass code verification. Very clever! Also using word obfuscation techniques, I’m not certain if it is specifically on purpose or they really don’t know how to spell. Probably to defeat spam filters, I’m thinking.

GPL build process management tools Oct 28 2004

Hmm. Only 2 results for a Google search on ‘”build process management” GPL’.

The MK – a Configuration Management Concept.

“The MK – a Configuration Management Concept.”
(, mk-3.18.4.html.gz mk-3.18.4.tar.gz)

The MK system is a UNIX software package that addresses some of the CMVC (Configuration Management and Version Control) issues. The MK system started primarily as a build facility based on the makefile generation idea. As the system was applied to the real life projects the revision system was added. At present both build and revision system work together in a specific project structure called “Shadow Tree Configuration”.

Generalities about MaK system

As has been mentioned the MaK is adapted MK software.
The adaptation extends the functionality of MK especially in following

  • It suppress the locking: allows more people to work with one specified
    file at the same time.
  • Enables merging of revision: logical consequence of previous point
will be creation of different independent versions of a file by
    modifying the same revision. It
seems to be useful to have some tool which incorporates a changes
from one file to another or create a new file including modifications
of two files in comparison with a given revision.
  • Brings some more functions like display the content of tree, list
directory content according the shadowing order and so on. (Most of
this new functions has been inspirated by well known ClearCase tools.)
  • Allows a comfortable build process with automatically generation of
Makefiles with all dependencies for the ARPEGE/Aladin project.

In the following text we will use the MaK name only even in cases
that the same will be valid for the MK too.

Windows shell auto-complete!!! Oct 26 2004

Windows shell (cmd.exe) is totally lame. Well, compared to bash at least. Anyways, it turns out that you can turn on autocomplete (TAB) kind of similar to using TAB on linux / cygwin / bash. Not enabled by default, um, I don’t know why. Anyways, here’s the registry entry to turn it on. Windows Shell Scripting

A Tweak

Did you know that Window’s cmd.exe has file and directory name completion, like UNIX shells? It does, and that can be amazingly useful. But in most versions of Windows it’s not turned on by default. (I believe it may be on in Windows 2003, but can’t swear to it.)

To enable file and directory name completion under Windows, download this registry file and remove the .txt, then double-click on it and answer yes to the question about importing into the Registry. If you can’t download for some reason you can copy the text below into a new file and import it, or just open regedit, navigate to the key, and change the values for CompletionChar and PathCompletionChar to 9. One you’ve done that, open a new command prompt and type dir c:\win then hit the TAB key and watch what happens. Of course the up arrow and other command line editing functions will still work as always.

; NT-TAB.reg — Sets the NT Command Completion Character to TAB
; Use “RegEdit /s NT-TAB.reg” for silent installations
; v1.0 1998-10-22 JP Vossen
; v1.1 2001-09-06 JPV Added PathCompletionChar
; v1.2 2003-03-30 JPV Added .DEFAULT and SOFTWARE sections

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor]

; Can also do this if you have the permissions
;[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor]
